Have you ever played casino games online? Did you wager real money or just play for fun? How many times have you walked into a real casino and walked out a winner? These are all fun questions to ask, but in reality, even if you don’t gamble or play card games… billions of people around the world are. Thanks to the massive growth and reach of the internet, online gambling is growing at a rapid pace and we are likely still only scratching the surface of what’s to come. Statista reports “In 2015, the online gaming market had a volume of [...]

Infographics are amazing! Besides being one of the best ways to explain a complicated topic with ease, they make information come alive. Research found, people following directions with text and illustrations do 323 percent better than people following directions without illustrations. Maybe that’s why “infographics are ‘liked’ and shared on social media 3x more than any other type of content.” And the concept of relaying information through visuals is nothing new. If you think about it, cave paintings and hieroglyphics dating back to 30,000 BC accomplished the same thing. They were far less sophisticated but demonstrate just how hard-wired we are when it comes to visual information. So it’s [...]

When you hear the phrase seasonal keywords, what comes to mind? Is it Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and general holiday-related keywords? Well, that’s definitely part of it. Of course, you’ll want to put the extra energy into optimizing your keywords for the holidays. After all, holiday retail sales during November and December brought in $658.3 billion in 2016. This translates into holiday retail sales representing 20% of total retail industry sales. But there’s a lot more to it than that. When I say seasonal keywords, I’m referring to any particular time of the year when there’s a spike in a particular search phrase and when there’s a predictable increase [...]

Today’s episode stars not one guest, but three! Joining me are Dr. Shannon Irvine, Rob Stuart, and Dr. Barbara Cohen—all students from the beta version of my latest course, Power-Up Podcasting. All three have had incredible experiences along the road to launching their first podcasts, and today they’re sharing their stories. I’ve shared a lot about why I think podcasting is the best platform for building your brand as an entrepreneur. Launching a podcast can open all kinds of doors for your business, and it forges a connection with your audience unlike any other medium. But why take my word for it, when you can [...]

Editorial Roundtable
Writing is a glorious and rewarding experience, a noble craft, one of the most satisfying ways you can spend your time — at least, while your clothes are on. Except for the days when it’s horrible. Maybe that’s why writers love quotes about writing. They help remind us of those lofty aspects and give us courage to get through the crummy parts. For your inspiration and encouragement, here are some favorite quotes on writing from our editorial team. Brian Clark Brian gets us started with one of the classics: “I write one page of masterpiece to ninety-one pages of shit,” Hemingway confided to F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1934. [...]

At a local WordCamp recently, I critiqued websites from a group of volunteers during a site clinic session. While I noticed a number of common mistakes — like extra-loud, auto-play videos and other distractions — one of the weird things that stood out was how many real, substantial businesses had problematic web hosting and domain strategies. With those in mind, I wanted to make sure you aren’t making the same mistakes. Let’s go through some of the worst offenses, shall we? Mistake #1: Spending more money on business cards than your web host It boggles my mind that a company with a great [...]

The world of online marketing is one that is growing in all directions at all times. While most affiliates and advertisers got their starts with desktop and search marketing, now it’s all about mobile marketing and application downloads. With more people preferring to use their mobile devices over traditional desktops, the demand for mobile traffic and monetization is now higher than ever. Not only is the market ripe for the picking, it’s also one that’s just going to continue to grow as lesser advanced countries get their hands on new technology and mobile devices. Pinox is an affiliate network that focuses solely on [...]

Organic Reach Chart
Facebook marketing is somewhat of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, Facebook had 1.94 billion monthly active users as of Q1 2017. That’s the most users of any social network by far. On the other hand, its organic reach is lousy. According to a study by Social@Ogilvy, Organic reach has declined to just six percent. This means that out of 100 of your followers, only six will actually see the content you post. That’s not ideal. This means one thing. You need to grow your following. If you apply Social@Ogilvy’s findings: having 100 followers means six people would see your post having 1,000 followers means 60 people would see your post having [...]

Quick Copy Tip
If you’ve studied copywriting, you know the purpose of the headline is to get people to click and start reading. And your opening copy needs to continue that momentum all the way to the offer or conclusion. One way to do that is to make a bold, seemingly unreasonable assertion in your title or headline. A proclamation so jarring that the right person can’t help but keep reading, listening, or watching to see where you’re going with it. As far as I can tell, copywriter John Forde (whose site tagline is, not coincidently, “Learn to sell or else …”) was the first [...]

It used to be that PR and SEO were two very different marketing tactics with virtually zero overlap. With roots going all the way back to the founding of the colonies in the New World in the 16th century, PR is like a grizzled old vet, while SEO is more of a young whippersnapper with a history that reaches back a mere 25 years at best. Traditional PR is based on old-school, offline techniques, while SEO has been completely digital from the start. But in the late twenty-teens, it’s apparent there’s now a high degree of overlap between the two. Just think about it on [...]

In the old days of Internet marketing, advertising could oftentimes take on more of a blanket approach. The same static banner could be shown to every visitor to a website, regardless of that visitor’s individual characteristics. In some cases, this is still how advertising on the Internet can appear, but through the powers of more advanced targeting, we know this doesn’t have to be the case. We know that this is a waste of time and resources for advertiser and publisher alike. We know there’s a better way. That’s precisely what leads us to BitterStrawberry today. It’s a performance network where [...]

Keyword research is synonymous with SEO. I remember, back in the day, when keyword research was SEO. The recipe was simple. Use the Google Keyword Tool (now known as the Google Keyword Planner) to type in a broad search phrase. Find a keyword phrase that receives a considerable number of searches with minimal competition. Stuff the crap out of it in your blog post. And voila! You’re on the first page of Google! That was when SEO was pretty archaic and Google’s algorithm was much less sophisticated than it is today. Back then, pretty much anyone could game the system with a little know-how. Heck, I remember when people [...]

It’s a game-changing mindset shift that’s transformed my own confidence and others’ confidence in me as a seller. In today’s episode, you’ll get Chalene’s expert advice for making this shift yourself, and how it can revolutionize your business. You’ll [...]

How to craft an outstanding guest post
Last week, I explained why guest posting is so valuable (and not just for link juice). Then, one of our regular contributors, Ali Luke, wrote about how to find opportunities and pitch your post.Today I want to dig further into coming up with an idea and writing your post itself. As a guest poster, you want to provide a great post that readers love … but also one that helps you achieve your own goals. There’s nothing greedy about this: reaching your goals may well help readers reach theirs too (e.g. if you want them to subscribe to your newsletter so [...]

Recently, my wife and I went on our first cruise. Even though we didn’t have an inkling of what to expect, we now have what we’re calling “Cruise Fever.” We plan on being repeat customers for the same cruise line — and wouldn’t even consider another. Why? It’s all due to the completely satisfying experience we had from the moment we stepped foot on the ship to our final moment aboard. The cruise line earned our loyalty by instantly pulling us in and retaining our attention in unique and entrancing ways. Here’s how you can use the “cruise ship” model to help build [...]
